Original photograph of a lovely Maiko 舞妓, an apprentice Geisha in Kyoto Japan. Photo Stevyn Llewellyn 2010.
I took this photo while travelling in Japan in Spring of 2010. I was fortunate enough to get a glimpse of a rare sight, a Maiko ( apprentice Geisha ) in her traditional kimono walking down Hanami Koji Dori street in the famous Geisha district in Kyoto. In the background are large sake casks, which frame her ornate wareshinobou hairstyle, elaborate kanzashi, brightly colored kimono, and beautiful green obi. She is also carrying a small purse. She had just finished a performance at the historic Pontocho Kaburenjo Theatre, where they have seasonal Geisha plays. This would make a unique gift for anyone interested in Japanese culture, Maiko, Geisha, or kimonos.
My work is inspired by nature, beauty, mythology, and symbolism. I have worked as a textile and graphic designer for fashion labels in the past and exhibited my art and photography nationwide. Thanks for your support and much love. View my art website at http://www.sirenarts.com to see more
